The design concept was informed by factors including circulation, accessibility, internal functions and orientation. The building is divided into three wings linked by a circulation spine to maximise south, west and easterly aspects.
In keeping with the surrounding context, the design and materials for the scheme aim to complement the existing masterplan and the local Kent style of buildings in addition to providing an active frontage to the scheme which helps to create an attractive street scene.
A new healthcare centre and integrated pharmacy was also incorporated into the development for both the residents of the extra care centre and the wider community to use. The centre incorporates a range of communal facilities including an onsite restaurant, hairdressers, laundry, IT suite and a shop, in addition to a range of offices and staff facilities.
