We are pleased to announce that South Oxhey, a multi-phase regeneration south of Watford, has been shortlisted at the Evening Standard New Homes Awards 2022 in the Best Regeneration Project category. Delivered in a collaboration between Three Rivers District Council and its development partners Countryside Properties and Home Group, South Oxhey establishes a new retail heart adjacent to the local station.
BPTW’s design for Phase 3 provides 345 new homes and 2,500sqm of commercial space, including a Lidl, and secured planning permission in 2020. Our scheme includes mixed-tenure homes designed in a creative arrangement of three-storey houses and maisonettes alongside seven-storey apartment buildings.
Our design enriches the urban environment by improving the retail configuration, increasing pedestrian connectivity and providing a well-considered public realm. The new homes benefit from high-quality green amenity spaces. To achieve this, BPTW creatively used landscaped podiums in the apartment buildings to limit the visibility of car parking and provide an improved urban realm for residents to enjoy. Architecturally, the unique brickwork and metalwork reference the local architecture to maintain a visible connection to the surrounding context. Importantly, the development increases the affordable housing provision in the area and helps form a new and vibrant centre for the community.
Congratulations to Countryside on a brilliant award submission! We look forward to the announcement of the winners later this month.
