We are delighted to announce that Hathaway Crescent, a Passivhaus Low Energy Building Standard development for London Borough of Newham which both our architectural and planning team worked on, was approved unanimously at committee last night.
Hathaway Crescent provides 72 100% affordable homes on an existing estate, all of which are designed to the Passivhaus Low Energy Building Standard through the use of a highly insulated envelope, detailing to avoid thermal bridging issues and brise soleil above windows to mitigate overheating. Alongside creating beautiful and sustainable homes, the scheme will deliver improvements to the estate with a public realm proposal including improvements to Hathaway Crescent Park (new planting, new play equipment, a new outdoor hub) and enhancements to existing entrance gateways and accessways. The design also achieves net zero carbon through the use of air source heat pumps (ASHP), MVHR and PV panels.
A fantastic scheme which offers residents homes which are more affordable to run through the use of passive measures for heating and cooling.
This is the second Passivhaus scheme for LB Newham which BPTW has secured planning permission for, following the approval of Morse Close in September 2021 which you can read more on here: https://www.bptw.co.uk/projects/morse-close/
