We’re happy to share the first completed photographs of our innovative age-friendly development for Gravesham Council at Constable Road and Rembrandt Drive in Kent. BPTW’s scheme offers an innovative approach to rightsizing, providing seven bespoke one-bedroom houses designed to improve long-term quality of life while freeing up larger family homes in Gravesham. The development was shortlisted for the 2022 Inside Housing Development Awards in the ‘Best older peoples housing development’ category.
BPTW developed the design in collaboration with Gravesham Borough Council to address specific housing needs in the area. The one-bedroom typology is characterised by an additional room in the roof that offers a flexible space suitable for hobbies, an office, an extra space for guests or somewhere for future carers to stay. The ground floor has a fully wheelchair-accessible layout and each home has considerable storage space and a garden.
BPTW Partner Neill Campbell recently visited the completed scheme to meet with residents and see first-hand what they thought of their new homes. Residents were impressed by the high-quality finish and sense of neighbourliness and explained how the design improved their independence and wellbeing.
Mrs Diprose, a resident at Constable Road, said, “This is our forever home. It’s the only home we’ll be in for the rest of our lives.”
