Construction of Ebbsfleet Garden City’s first custom-build phase, Alkerden Gateway, is progressing rapidly with completion scheduled for late spring. BPTW’s innovative 67-home scheme for Westerhill Homes contributes to a total of 15,000 new homes in north Kent overseen by Ebbsfleet Development Corporation.
At Alkerden Gateway, homeowners can create a bespoke house tailored to their needs using a six-stage customisation approach with choices including three ground floor layouts and external material options such as weatherboard and brick. The result is a characterful, bespoke neighbourhood with contemporary architecture inspired by the local Kent vernacular. With a sustainable impetus reflective of a 21st-century garden city, homeowners can select biodiversity enhancements to benefit local ecology, including fruit trees and flowering, species-rich and wildflower turf, green roofs, bird and bat boxes, and bee bricks. Additionally, electric vehicle charging is standard, and all homes can select PV panels and water recycling facilities.
In recognition of the outstanding design quality, BPTW’s design for Alkerden Gateway was shortlisted for the 2022 Housing Design Awards. The project also features at the 2023 Building Garden Communities Conference held at the RIBA with BPTW as the Conference’s Design Lead.
