With the UK government’s pledge to deliver 1.5 million homes in the next five years, it is crucial for the housing sector to step up to meet the skills demand. Research by the Construction Industry Training Board has shown at least 225,000 extra workers are needed over the next three years.

BPTW is supporting the Build Your Future in Housing campaign from The Housing Forum’s Futures Network to boost the profile of housing as a career path and support the development of skills needed in the sector. As a Futures Network member, Hayley Grace, Architect at BPTW, is working with the rest of the team to explore ways of solving the housing industry’s skill shortages through a series of podcasts.

One way to address the skills shortage, is to ensure that the housing industry is accessible and inclusive, raising awareness around neurodiversity to attract a diverse range of individuals to the sector and support them with their career journey’s.

In the latest podcast episode, Hayley meets with Charlotte Hollands from BMJ Architects to discuss how the housing industry can be more accessible, drawing on Charlotte’s own experience as an Architect with ADHD. Charlotte offers insight into the importance of representation, adjustments that can be made for those who are neurodiverse, and how encouraging inclusivity and diverse of ways of thinking can elevate our built environment.
