BPTW is pleased to have recently been appointed to deliver a strategic design code to support the Hemel Garden Communities (HGC) Framework Plan which will guide the delivery of 11,000 new homes and facilities.
The Strategic Design Code will inform the policies of the emerging local plans for both Dacorum Borough Council and St Albans City and District Council, and an accompanying Supplementary Planning Document (HGC Framework and Transformation Plan SPD).
Working to the process detailed in the National Model Design Code and National Design Guide, BPTW’s work is being delivered by our urban design team, overseen by Director Scott Elliott Adams, leading a wider consultant team including HTA Landscape and Urban Movement who will support the landscape and movement components of the design code. Our work has recently commenced with a series of stakeholder workshops and will provide a clear vision and coding plan focusing on the key structuring principles across the North and East growth areas as part of the HGC programme. Working closely with HGC officers, our work will ensure the development of clear design quality standards for the key placemaking components of HGC. The code is expected to be completed in Spring 2024.
