We are thrilled to announce our appointment as masterplanner for the Teviot Estate regeneration in Tower Hamlets. Appointed by Poplar HARCA and Hill, BPTW will be the lead architect on the scheme, helping to deliver circa 1,750 new homes as well as a range of new green and play spaces, shops, and community and faith facilities. Significant investment in infrastructure will also be made, ensuring the estate is better connected to surrounding areas and transport hubs.
BPTW’s appointment follows an architectural selection process involving a sifting brief stage which saw an initial pool of nine architects narrowed down to three. Residents, as well as an independent residents’ advisor, were also included in the Poplar HARCA’s Procurement Steering Group, which interviewed the shortlisted architectural teams ahead of final selection.
BPTW Partner Justin Kelly said: “BPTW is committed to putting residents at the heart of the design proposals for Teviot and will work closely with them to ensure their aspirations are delivered. We look forward to working with Poplar HARCA, Hill and Delvendahl Martin to bring forward a transformative scheme that will be an exemplar of placemaking and sustainable regeneration in London, one that is community-led and delivers a positive social and economic impact for the area over the long term. Along with modern, safe, energy efficient homes that will be wonderful to live in, our work will create and shape the neighbourhood residents want, with beautiful safe parks and play spaces, encouraging healthy living and better connections across Teviot and the surrounding area.”
Paul Dooley, Poplar HARCA’s Director of Development and Regeneration said:
“Poplar HARCA and the Teviot Residents’ Steering Group are delighted with the appointment of BPTW and Delvendahl Martin to bring forward a transformative masterplan for the Teviot Estate. It is clear that these two local practices share our commitment and passion for putting residents at the centre of design for Teviot. The selection was jointly made with our Residents’ Procurement Steering Group and we thank them for their continued valuable input and support.
With BPTW and Delvendahl Martin, we look forward to working together with the London Borough of Tower Hamlets and the community to develop a scheme that not only delivers on all of the ballot promises we made to residents in 2018, but is also recognised for its outstanding contribution to social value throughout its potential 15 year life time.”
Andy Fancy, Regional Managing Director at Hill said:
“We are pleased to welcome BPTW to the team that will deliver the regeneration of Teviot. They share our commitment to creating a thriving and sustainable community and contributing positive social value for generations to come. We are looking forward to working with them to translate the residents’ vision into a masterplan that will deliver a ‘best in class’ exemplar for urban regeneration with outstanding placemaking and design, which will be submitted for planning approval in mid-late 2022.”
Our team have commenced working with residents and the Resident Steering Group to understand their ambitions for the estate in order to inform the design.
As part of the regeneration, BPTW will be delivering an extensive programme of social value. The programme commenced on Saturday 11 September with the Teviot Festival, an event that celebrated the estate community’s local talent through a range of stage performances and offered residents the opportunity to participate in numerous family activities including a prize draw, face painting and a circus skills workshop.
With residents at the heart of the Teviot Estate regeneration, the festival was also a great opportunity for our design team to meet those who will benefit from the development. Through the use of VR goggles and models, residents were able to learn more about our team and the regeneration’s objectives. Our design team also provided insights into careers in the built environment to younger residents on the estate.
BPTW are looking forward to continuing to work with residents, Poplar HARCA, Hill and local architectural practice Delvendahl Martin to bring forward a transformative masterplan for the Teviot Estate.
