We are extremely pleased to announce that on Monday night our final ‘small site’ scheme for Opendoor Homes, the development arm of Barnet Council, achieved committee approval. Basing Way will provide 46 one to three-bed affordable rent apartments within three blocks on an existing housing estate in Barnet. Our architectural and planning consultancy teams undertook extensive public consultation with residents, and worked closely with Barnet Council’s planning team to develop a series of high quality apartment blocks which fit in with the surrounding context and deliver extensive landscape improvements for the wider estate. As a result, land at Basing Way will provide 1:1 parking and will open up a currently inaccessible area of scrubland on the site to create a high quality, landscaped amenity space including additional tree planting, nature trails and play equipment for the benefit of both existing and future residents.
BPTW’s architects and planners have been working alongside Opendoor Homes since 2015, providing strategic advice and a series of proposals as part of their wider development programme for underutilised and infill sites across the borough, targeted to deliver 500 new affordable homes by 2021. The Basing Way approval marks BPTW’s 17th planning approval, resulting in a total of 198 new affordable homes we have secured permission for within this housing programme. A great example of a local authority making use of existing underutilised land in their ownership to deliver much needed affordable homes which respond to local need.
