BPTW’s design for Campkin Road increases the provision of affordable homes in Cambridge and re-provides an important local community centre. Situated in the north of Cambridge, the project draws inspiration from the surrounding vernacular architecture.

The development provides 75 new houses and apartments, and a community centre across four buildings arranged to integrate with the immediate surroundings. The design responds to the neighbouring streetscape in scale, rhythm and proportion to create aesthetic harmony between new and existing buildings, assisted by active street frontages and retained green spaces. Inspired by the local architectural vernacular, the design uses a simple brick material palette and reinterprets traditional details in a contemporary way to create a strong sense of place.
BPTW has been working closely with Cambridge Investment Partnership as part of a new build programme to design and deliver homes for social rent across the city of Cambridge. The proposals at Campkin Road form part of a wider strategy to meet housing needs across the city.
